Attached are photos that were captured by photographers on the Tail of the Dragon in Tenessee. What you see is a rider who, as it appears, drifted into the center line as he headed into a curve. The rear tire slid out and as you can see, the rider lost control and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Something to look at and think about…

  1. See where the rider is looking throughout the duration of the event. As we have all been taught, you should look where you want to go, not where you are at. It’s possible the rider may have been able to recover.
  2. “When in doubt, throttle it out”! It is possible the rider may have been able to recover in the slide had he hit the throttle. As you accelerate, your bike will naturally want to stand up, like accelerating out of a curve!
