Group riding tip! Lane Changes – when riding in a group with a Road Captain and Sweep members of the group follow the Road Captain. The Sweep’s job is to help the Road Captain setup the lane change by taking the lane when instructed by the Road Captain. When the Sweep has taken the lane and the lane is clear, the Sweep will signal the Road Captain and the Road Captain will then signal the lane change to the group. As the Road Captain maneauvers to the lane the group will follow the Road Captain to ensure an even, smooth trasition to the new lane. The Sweep’s job is to take the lane first to reduce the potential threat of other motorists trying to pass the group during the lane change. Be sure and listen up to pre-ride briefings for specific instructions!
